Tesla’s New 2021 Model S Has a 520 Mile Range
It’s been almost a decade since the Model S was first introduced. Since then there have been massive improvements in battery and electric car technology. While some of those improvements have come incrementally to the series over the years, this is the first time there has been a major refresh.
Some of the key changes are:
- Increase in distance from 373 miles to 520 miles
- Top speed increase from 163mph to 200mph
- 0–60mph acceleration down from 2.4 seconds to sub-2 seconds
These are some insane stats for a production car that really show off what Tesla has learned in the last decade. The refreshed series will feature 3 versions:
- Long Range
- Plaid
- Plaid+
Out with the Performance versions, in with the Plaid versions. The new Model S will include a brand new drive train, redesigned interior and exterior, and other improvements. A lot of these improvements come from the knowledge Tesla has gained over the past 8 years with manufacturing their Model 3 and Model Y cars. Steering “Wheel” and Stick Shift Controversy
There’s been a lot of controversy regarding the proposed steering mechanism. Most of the concern comes from the appearance of form over function. While many agree that it looks cool, most are concerned that the gap at the top could present a potential safety hazard.
The keen eyed among you may have noticed that there isn’t a gear shifter in the center of the car. If fact, there’s no physical gear shifter at all.
Let’s hope the Tesla team trained that neural net well.
